The Annual meeting of Pontesbury Parish Council was held on 15 May 2017 at The Mary Webb School and Science College at Pontesbury. Cllr Duncan Fletcher was re-elected as Chairman of the Parish Council with Cllr John Pritchard, as Vice Chairman. Cllr Fletcher thanked the Parish Council for unanimously re-electing him as the Chairman.
Cllr Susan Lockwood was welcomed to her first Parish Council meeting, following her election representing the Pontesbury Ward of Pontesbury Parish Council. Cllr Nick Hignett (Rea Valley Division) and Cllr Roger Evans (Longden Ward) were also congratulated on their elections as Shropshire Councillors. The Parish Council is also very pleased that both of them will also be members of the Parish Council. Outgoing Councillors Margaret Beckett, Nick Deane and Billy Goodall were thanked for their contribution over the last term of office. They had all been valued members of the Parish Council and will be missed.
As reported in the last newsletter there are three Councillor vacancies in Cruckton Ward. One vacancy has now been filled by co-opting Cllr Charlie Sandells back onto the Council but the Parish Council is keen to fill the other two vacancies. If you are interested in being a Parish Councillor, representing Cruckton Ward (Cruckton, Cruckmeole, Lea Cross, Ford Heath and all the other hamlets in between), please contact the Parish Clerk who will let you have additional information.
Road Safety issues around the Schools in Pontesbury
The Parish Council has become more concerned over the last few months of the long standing road safety/parking issues in the area around the schools. The local Councillors have raised this with Shropshire Council Officers to see what can be done. The Parish Council recently received a letter from the Head teacher at the Primary School and at the last meeting it was agreed that the Parish Council would make this one of its priority Community Led Road Safety Concerns in our submission to Shropshire Council. The Parish Council is not the Highway Authority, but it can make a strong case to Shropshire Council to ask any issue to be looked at. We hope that this will be done and we will report back when any updates are available. Parents and road users in the area are reminded of the need to park safely and consider pedestrians and other vehicles. The Parish Council has also written to the Planning Officer to ensure that any deliveries or parking related to the current building work in the area, are carried out in accordance with the agreed terms of the planning approval, particularly after a recent incident with a delivery.
Next Parish Council Meeting
The next Parish Council meeting is to be held on Monday 12 June 2017 at Cruckton Village Hall; starting at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend. If you need to contact the Parish Council, please phone or email the Parish Clerk
