‘Shrouds of the Somme’

Steve Knightley gave us a brilliant concert of superb music and great entertainment in Minsterley on 3 May, raising valuable and much-appreciated funds for Pontesbury Library. On the night, Steve also made us aware of a very special project which needs our help. He is helping to launch a crowdfunding campaign on 10 May to raise £150,000 by 19 June to take ‘Shrouds of the Somme’ to London for an extraordinary and moving memorial exhibition to commemorate lost soldiers of the Great War by artist Rob Heard. Rob will stitch shrouds by hand for 72,396 figures to represent all British servicemen killed at the Battle of the Somme whose bodies were never recovered.

Steve is a Patron of Shrewsbury Folk Festival and returns to perform over the festival weekend (25-28 August). See: www.steveknightley.co.uk; www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk.
