Pontesbury WI: December 2017

At a very well attended November meeting members and visitors enjoyed an informative talk by guest speaker Clare Davies from Severn Trent Water. It is the fourth largest privately-owned water company in the world. Using renewable energy sources they hope to be fifty percent energy efficient by 2020. Clare explained water treatment and supply and the importance of saving water. She demonstrated simple ways of avoiding drain and sewer blocking,
Kathleen Hartshorne MBE gave us a wonderfully descriptive account of her memorable day at Buckingham Palace. She received her award from Prince William who remembers well flying helicoptors over Pontesbury and Pontesford Hill.
It was a beautiful day in October when members visited the Royal Worcester museum. We were given a fascinating demonstration by a former employee of Royal Worcester. Using special modelling paste, she handmade flowers from primroses to exotic blooms with such skill they were truly lifelike. Our next outing will be in November to the Birmingham Jewellery quarter, then after lunch to the National Trust Back to Back houses. At the December meeting, Sue Pearson, well-known for her beautiful flower arrangements, will be showing us how to present and enhance our floral arrangements. We have had a wonderfully diverse year of speakers, activities and outings. If you would like to visit us at one of our WI meetings you will be warmly welcomed, please ring Sue Brookes on 01743 790610.
